Microsoft's AI Autonomous Systems team asked us to design and engineer a system to bridge human and machine intelligence that could visualize their new machine teaching service, Project Bonsai.
The solution was a physical developer bot designed to help engineers and developers learn how to build real-world autonomous control systems. Simulated visualizations with the trained bonsai AI brain can be deployed to the bot to autonomously adjust a balance plate with control arms.
Utilizing an undermounted, integrated camera, the design solution allowed for a clear balance plate which allows for emphasis on the balance ball and AI-driven operating control arms.
As the digital destination for Project Moab, the website contains everything a developer needs to get started with the Bonzai platform: Tutorials for setting up your bot, physical assets, and engineering and software resources.
The packaging design strikes a balance between the modern industrial design of the physical bot and a DIY/enthusiast aesthetic look of the exterior with industrial cardboard and clean, minimal line art. Ecological impact was a driving principle with recycled material used where possible.
